For the past few weeks, I've been totally immersed in researching my family tree. Thanks to my 14 day free trial at Ancestry.com, my life has been consumed with who died when and where. Who birthed and who married whom were visions I saw in my sleep! Yes, I became a little obsessed.
Before I started, I knew very little about my dad's side of the family and now that my trial is over, I know a lot more, but unfortunately, not about the one person that started me on my quest: my great-grandmother.
Apparently she lived. She gave birth to my grandfather. And that is all. She's still the same mystery to me she was two weeks ago--perhaps more of one since I was told she died giving birth to my grandfather, but I believe I found her on a much later census.
Family secrets? Family scandals? Who knows. The one thing I do know is that you should be honest with your kids. Otherwise, their grandkids will turn out to be someone like me--obsessed with figuring out the truth and going crazy in the process!
I WILL figure it out because that's just how I am, but until I do, I hope my great-grandmother Minerva is resting in peace SOMEWHERE. I'd just like to know where.
