I'm not a fancy cake baker. I don't have a gourmet food blog nor do I think I should! I'm not all that crafty, talented or creative, but I really wanted to try to make a cake with fondant.
Since it was The Girl's 19th birthday, I decided this was my chance. I did a lot of Googling, reading and watching videos on YouTube before deciding to pick up some of Duff's(The Ace of Cakes) fondant. It was reviewed as having a good taste and easy for newbies to work with. I also picked up some cute little flower fondant cutters to use for decoration on the cake.
What resulted is below. Not the best of photos, but shortly after this, it was demolished and that was that. I don't think you wanted to see it after. I only had a little trouble on the sides, but I managed to camoflage those problems mostly with the purple flowers.
Not too bad for the first try, right? (That IS dark purple and not black on the cake.) I have enough fondant left over for another cake, too. Not sure when that is happening though!
