After reading about this case, I'm almost to the point of believing that we should microchip our kids. What in the HELL is going on in this country that is allowing so many of our children to be kidnapped, raped and murdered?
I've debated whether or not it's actually more cases or if we're just hearing about more, but I really believe it's happening more often than ever. I visit websleuths.com and they have entire forums dedicated to missing people--many children. There are many more aside from the ones they have listed.
All the cases we hear about aren't even a tiny fraction of the actual cases that are open and being investigated. Why is this happening?
Sex offenders are being given short sentences. They're released and then their crimes escalate. Amber Dubois' murder is now being linked to Chelsea King--a 17 year old whose body was discovered last week after being missing for several days. The suspect in Chelsea's case had spent time in jail previously, yet we know it wasn't long enough. It was part of a "plea" deal and why, oh why is this allowed to happen?
In my world of justice, once you have harmed a child, you'd stay in jail forever. I'm not in favor of the death penatly, but sex offenders are a different breed. Research has proven over and over that they can't be reformed. Therapy doesn't help. They don't change. We also know that the first time they're "caught" is almost never with their first victim. They leave a path behind them full of destroyed lives.
Chelsea King's family most likely were able to find her quickly because they were able to locate her phone via GPS. I'll be adding that service to my kids' phones. Thankfully, that may have saved them potentially months of agony waiting for their daughter to be found.
Perhaps that microchip idea isn't a bad one. We do it to our pets...it's disgusting to think that a 14 yr old can't walk to school without feeling safe or a 17 yr old can't to for a run without worrying someone will attack her.
This has to end. I don't know how, but there seems to be a movement out there pushing for change. I hope it can gain momentum and be successful.
