Rain, Rain, Go AWAY

In my back yard, there's a hole--a hole with some string. That's exactly how far they've made it with our addition.

Let's see. Monday it rained. Tuesday it rained. Yesterday, they did the string. Today they were supposed to pour cement. It rained.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow.

It's supposed to be nice Saturday.

It's supposed to rain Monday and Tuesday.

At this rate, we might be finished up by July.

Sigh...

It's not my fault...

Read above. That's all I have to say about the current state of our country and our government. I've never seen SO many people so upset and angry... Perhaps there will be a true viable third party candidate in 2012. I know I won't support either side...no way.

Happy Birthday to The Boy!

Today was his 14th birthday. He didn't want a party. He didn't want a big celebration. I guess those days are gone.

He wanted a plain cake. (See above)

I was sad until I read his Facebook status a while ago:

 My mom is awesome she got me this awesome phone and Orphan and Final Fantasy XII and she got me a new 360 last month. 

Awwwww...now I can go to bed happy. (Why won't he tell me that to my face? ;))

We broke ground!

What you see there, Friends(and anonymous readers) is the beginning of our addition. Whoo hoo! It's about time! That's the back door and the back of our house which is going to extend out, well...a LONG way. 2 new rooms! I'm so excited I can barely contain myself.

We won't be using that door for a while and I guess our back yard is going to look like a mess for a while, but it will be worth it in the end.

And that's another photo of the big hole they dug today. LOL It actually looks like a trench which is, I guess, exactly what it is!

Even though he's 14 now, he can't resist the chance to play in a big pile of dirt! Boys never grow up! 
 
 

It's not a big deal, really!

Mr. Polka Dot is not very happy with me right now. He says he knew this would happen. I need a new outlet in the kitchen and since the wall will be against the addition, I've asked for them to put it in for me when they do it.

Of course, now I've also decided to rip out a cabinet and counter and move my stove along with installing a new dishwasher.

He's not happy, but hopefully this will NOT be as big of a deal as he says it will be. We need more space and doing this will make more usable space--plus, I can move the microwave off the counter.

I've explained that a nicer kitchen means more home made food for him. I hope that works.

P.S. They're supposed to be here tomorrow to start! Cross fingers!

Icees for the Doggie?

Remember the new fridge that Cooper was so frightened to walk past? Well, now he's decided it's his friend.

He's discovered that it dispenses ice like magic and while he doesn't like the noise it makes, he LOVES the ice. I'm envisioning a summer of being forced to feed this dog crushed ice all day long...

It's the life of a dog.

Hazelnut Cream and Chocolate Froth Oh Yum!

Who knew picking paint colors for our addition was going to be so difficult? I mean, what in the world is the difference between Hazelnut Cream, Sandstone Cove and Chocolate Froth? Really?!

Is it so difficult? I imagine the people who come up with the names for these colors. I bet they even have focus groups who sit around and rate the names.

Let's call something Chocolate Froth because maybe someone will be hungry as they're looking through the colors and like that one!

How about Castle Path for the woman who wants to live in a castle like a fairy princess?

Hey, how about Sandstone Cliff for the fed up wife who just wants the damn rooms finished?

That works for me.

Now back to choosing. So far, Chocolate Froth is winning and it's not really because I'm hungry...

Really...

Flooding...

We're having terrible flooding around here right now. The river is supposed to crest tonight at an "action" stage. I'm not sure what that means, but I guess I need to find out. Here are a few photos that The Girl took today while we were out. She's our resident meteorologist.

This little creek is normally just a trickle. Not so today!

There's a boat dock at the bottom of these steps, but you wouldn't know it, would you?

Delayed again...

I was warned about this by everyone who has added on to their homes. I was told to expect delays.

Two weeks ago, our contractor told us he'd probably be ready to start in two weeks. Well, you guessed it, yesterday, he checked in to tell us it wil probably be at least two MORE weeks.

It's not totally his fault. We've had a bad winter and then a lot of rain. I'm hoping things clear up SOON! I'm ready for it to be over and done with. Hopefully once it's started it will be finished in a month or so. Cross your fingers!

I've been shopping for things for the new rooms and I'm running out of space to store them! I admit that part's fun!

We're going to give The Boy our bedroom since we're putting in a much larger master. I've bought him a new bed, comforter, curtains, rug and he's picked out some cool posters we need to frame. He's going for a movie theme. It's going to be cool!

What matters

Sometimes something happens that makes you realize that it doesn't matter who was right. It doesn't matter who was wrong. It doesn't matter who said what.

It doesn't matter if your feelings were slightly hurt. If you flinched over someone's insensitivity when perhaps you were the one being too sensitive.

It doesn't matter.

None of it matters.

The only thing that matters is that someone you care about is hurting and all you want to do is make it all better. Sometimes, you just can't. You can try, but sometimes there's nothing you can do but listen and be there and hope things will get better.

My heart hurts right now, but I know that my hurt is nothing in comparison to someone else's pain.
